The "Alligator" mound is an effigy mound built by the Fort Ancient culture that depicts some four-legged creature, likely a mammal, and very unlikely to actually represent an alligator.
The mound was built on Raccoon Creek and is now closely surrounded by houses in a neighborhood.
It measures approximately 250 ft. long, and has a maximum height of 5-6 ft.
It was made from blocks and fragments of sandstone covered in clay and soil.
