The Fort Ancient culture received its name from this site, which was originally thought to have been built by the Fort Ancient culture because of artifacts found at the site attributed to the Fort Ancient time period. However, further research exposed that the site was more likely constructed by the Hopewell culture much earlier, and was likely used by the Fort Ancient people at a later time.
